James
Vick from Rochester (New York) becames after a training as a printer in 1853 the publisher
of the horticultural magazine 'The Horticulturist'. He also began to grow flowers
and sent seeds of it to the readers of this magazine. In 1855 he established in Rochester
the seed-trade 'The Victory Seed Company'. He also published under the name 'Floral
Guide and Catalogue' a seedcatalogue. In this edition from 250.000 copies - wath he
restyled lateron to a monthly magazine - he brought besides gardenadvices also 'floral
chromos' in a high quality. |
