When
in the begin of 1999 I tried to make myself familiair the surfing on internet, one of
the first searchwords of which the search-engine offered his results was that of my dear
plant 'fuchsia'. The result of the searchtour delivered more than 1000 sites, in which
would stand in the text somewhere the word 'fuchsia'. The gross of the by me linked
sites had to made nothing with this plant.
The right searching to
information about the fuchsia is made difficult by the fact that the word 'fuchsia' is
standing for a certain plant as well as for an important standard colour out of the
graphic world (a so-called html-colour fuchsia, also
named magenta). The hard rose standard colour indication you see reproduced in the
background of the headline above this article. It isn't then surprizing that a large
number of sites found by the search-engine just gives information about this html-colour.
Many products which are delivered in the hard rose colour are also inserted in the
presented list. Such a search-engine searches mechanical after the word 'fuchsia' without
paying attention to the fact if it goes about a plant with that name or about something
with the hard rose colour, isn't it? By the found colour indication there are sites
between about underwear, robes, sex-lingerie, shoes, lamps, bags, etc.. Remarkable are in
those selected lists also hotels, modelhouses and coffee-houses with the name 'Fuchsia'.
And you find there also sites of dogs, cats and horse breeders with the name 'Fuchsia'.
Don't stare when you clicked on a site and there appears the robust miss 'Fuchsia' in the
picture who invites you for a party of wristling. Recently I found still a very remarkable
'fuchsia-site' on the URL-address http://www.camk.edu.pl/~piotr/fuksja/fuchsia3.shtml
of somebody in Poland. A number of photos from fuchsias are showed in the article 'My
computer', and after reading this, it seams that the search-engine this article about his
computer, that he give the nick-name 'Fuchsia', has devided in the database from 'Google'
in the searchlist with the subject 'fuchsia'!

A
made better search-instruction |
By giving up in the
search-instruction the plural of the plantname, so in English 'fuchsias', delivers this
well less sites, but they mostly give well information of this plant. Most of the sites
with the colour-indication then aren't taken up longer in a new list with links. The plural-form
is allready a whole change for the better for searching information about our fuchsia
garden-hobby. |

My
'GFI-Search-engine to fuchsia-hobby gardensites' |
It
gave me great annoyance to waste much time with clicking of sites that provided me no
pointed out information about my fuchsia-hobby. Therefore I thinked the possebility to
make myself a search-engine to sites about the fuchsia-plant and this then to add for use
by other fuchsia-lovers to my website 'Gelderse Fuchsia Info-site'. The first version of this appeared April 2000 with about 175
fuchsia-sites in 9 directories.
After composing of
this first version it attracted attention that fuchsia-sites out of countries with German
language were bad represented. Lateron I discovered the cause of it. Many German sites are
presented only in German language and don't have a separate English version. And the
German word for 'fuchsias' is 'Fuchsien'. For sites with only 'Fuchsien' in the text the
search-engine makes a separate search-list and that list I had missed for the greater part
by the first version. That means that after updating the first version (it is amazing how
quick URL-addresses are cancelled or modified, also in fuchsia-sites) there also could
been added in the second edition many German 'Fuchsien-sites' and counted the second
edition of my search-engine allready 300 sites. |
Afterwards
there are searched always more search-engines - so well one thousand - and regular they
deliver again new 'discoveries'. The third version from April 2001 has allready about 350
fuchsia-sites.
Did you wish that the
search-engine in the search-list gives German as well as English sites then is that
possible by most search-engines by giving in the search-instruction 'fuchsias OR
fuchsien'.

The
word 'fuchsia' in other languages |
Some
great search-engines make links to the occuring search-engines in the various countries
and for my search I made frequently use of 'WorldJump' (1000 searchprogramm's and 1,5 miljoen foreign sites) http://www.worldjump.com. I was surprised that in many
countries on those national searching search-engines after giving in the word 'fuchsias'
this as a result delivered only zero sites, while you sometimes expect that they have in
such a country also fuchsias.
It seams that such a
country has rightly fuchsia-sites, but that those sites are placed under the word 'fuchsia
in the language' of the country. For example in Polish search-engines under the word
'fuksje'. Give for example once the search-instruction in following (near my experience
the best) search-engine 'Google' with words as 'fuksia', 'fushia', 'fuksje' etc.
The result of the numbers in different search-lists of several manners of writing of this
word you see in the undermentioned 'Tabel of searchwords'.
In all the then showed
search-lists are always again a number fuchsia-sites, which be absent in the search-lists
with the words 'fuchsias' or'fuchsien'. More difficult it becomes as a language has
separate fonts, which aren't to type with your computer. For example the Russian word for
fuchsia in cyrillisch writing looks as follows:
. Via a Finnish / Russian
search-engine (which has on it also an English translation), there could been added in my
search-engine a number of fuchsia-sites out of Russia, Poland, Czechoslovakia and Estonia.
However, much of the given information of those sites perhaps I and also you cann't read.

When
the update 2e version of this article is presented, is meanwhile the update 7e version
with 850 sites about the fuchsia gardenhobby and about Fuchsia Lore on the Gelderse Fuchsia Info-site placed.

Summary |
The setting up and
managing of a search-engine to fuchsia-sites seams to be a time-consuming occupation. But
the discovery of always again new fuchsia-information gives me much pleasure. You get at
home very well in what there one and all is possible with regard to your fuchsia-hobby, I
get ideas for articles in my 'Fuchsia-info
Magazine' on this website. It surprises me always again how bad and artificial some
webmasters (also those of Fuchsia-societies and from the fuchsia-nurseries) their website
are presenting. But will my search-engine been complete, then you and I must accept that
those bad websites are added between the good sites in it. |
The final result of this effort is now that in future other fuchsia-lovers
via the 'GFI-Search-engine to fuchsia-hobby gardensites' on the 'Gelderse Fuchsia Info-site' can gather on internet information about their
fuchsia-hobby with less effort and also more efficient. |
